Our team of experts can help your organization formulate solutions to detect and minimize TBI

Our highly diverse research and development team has resulted in products that provide both athletes and non-athletes with affordable access to solutions that can help avoid TBI or immediately detect and recognize early warning signs that warrant prompt medical attention. Implementing our primary prevention and early identification systems, combined with education strategies, evidence-based interventions, and appropriate medical attention can help to save lives and reduce morbidity from impact injuries to the brain and body.

Trauma Aware provides a unique solution to identifying potential concussion and traumatic brain injury. Impact sensors are mounted in strategic places in uniforms or clothing such as helmets, shoulder pads, and spine pads. The obvious helmet-to-helmet collision can generate significant force impact directly to the head. However, impacts to the body, such as the back or ribs can produce a strong force that is propagated through the body. This body force can result in whiplash of the head and/or force propagation up the spinal cord to the brain. While the propagated force is reduced from the area of the initial impact, it nonetheless generates an external, unnatural force to the brain as well as to the body. The end result of repeated body impacts can provide a cumulative adverse effect to the brain resulting in a concussed state. Body impacts can result in bruised or damaged internal organs which may initially go unnoticed as there may not be accompanying pain typical of a broken bone. Trauma Aware monitors the impact and initially correlates the force with our national database. However, every individual has their own unique reaction to body force impact, whether one-time on repetitive collisions. Athletic trainers or the athlete may feel an initial shock or know that something is momentarily “not quite right” after an impact. These physical and mental symptoms are noted, which serves to adjust the national database to be more sensitive to the feelings and effects of the individual athlete.
